DescriptionPublished in 1936 (first edition copy), book details the history of Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire.Mount Monadnock, or Grand Monadnock, of Cheshire County, New Hampshire, is the most prominent New England mountain peak south of the White Mountains and east of the Massachusetts Berkshires. At 3,165 feet (965 m), it is nearly 1,000 feet (305 m) higher than any mountain peak within 30 miles and rises 2,000 feet (610 m) above the surrounding landscape. The term "monadnock" has come to be used by American geologists to describe any isolated mountain formed from the exposure of a harder rock as a result of the erosion of a softer rock that once surrounded it (a landform termed inselberg elsewhere in the world). Chapters include: -The Grand Monadnock- Pioneering on the Uplands- Primitive Highways- Taverns: Ancient and Recent- Early Path Makers- Recent Trails- Thoreau's Camps- Origin of the Name- The Public Reservations- The Summit- The View- The Story of the Rocks- Through a Geologist's Eyes- The Highland Birds- Who's Who of the Settlers - Key to Historic Map Get Skype and call me for free! or dial 617-297-2391 click on image Visit our store Cambid's Reading! click on image Newsletter Signup! click on image PAYMENT OPTIONS Payment must be received within 10 days of auction closing date.
