Description
DISTANCE LEARNING / VIDEO MARKETING STUDIO Contact Peter Squier at 512-413-3100 Offering State of the art, never used, distance learning and video marketing studio Original Cost $179,945 Manufacturer TEL Systems of Ann Arbor, Michigan Location Air conditioned storage in Austin, Texas Purpose This custom designed studio enables live synchronous distance learning and video marketing sessions, generates live broadcasts, and produces on-demand (asynchronous) content. Through automated electronics the studio can be operated by as little as one presenter, enabling very easy and affordable productions. History Pioneered and perfected by Peoplesoft, this similar studio was purchased by Knowledge Universe to launch a dot-com distance learning business called KnowledgeBroadcasting.com. The studio has been in storage since the dot com bust. Output The studio has been used to source signals for: · Satellite · Internet · Closed cable systems Input The video/audio switching system is controlled by a touch screen at the instructor’s station or a separate technician station. Input devices include but are not limited to: · 3 Sony tracking cameras · DVD player · VHS VCR player · Computer video · Wireless and wired microphones · Telestrator (John Madden type video overlays) · Video camera mounted over work surface to display physical items or printed paper documents Peoplesoft Origin Peoplesoft (now part of Oracle), a software company, pioneered the use of distance learning to educate their user base across the world. They found they could offer their best trainers, to a wider audience, at a lower cost by taking their classroom led experience and delivering it via a distance learning studio. Peoplesoft experimented with distance learning and found that offering a combination of live classes, on-demand classes, and private customized classes best met their client’s needs. Additionally, they frequently used the studio to provide both internal communications to their remote offices and field-based personnel, and external marketing sessions to their existing and prospective customers. Peoplesoft’s presenters quickly found they didn’t like having a production technician controlling the presentation and preferred to have control over what was shown. This resulted in the studio adopting an elaborate switching system controlled by a presenter master touch screen. The studio enables the presenter to select one of multiple camera shots, to play prerecorded video on a DVD or VCR, to display a computer screen’s output, to show written documents, to telestrate over video images, to play prerecorded audio, or to show Powerpoint slides all from the master touch screen. This enables the presenter to provide on-the-fly responses to viewer questions. The result of the sophisticated electronics is not only a better presenter experience for the audience, but a 50-75% reduction in the cost of production staff. The biggest challenge for incorporating video in distance learning and presentations is the amount of bandwidth available to the viewer. Video over the internet requires a large broadband connection to the desktop. Peoplesoft pioneered their system in the late 1990s when there was little broadband and had to use a satellite distribution system. With over 70% of all Internet users now using broadband, it is clear where the distance learning experience is going. KnowledgeBroadcasting.com This studio was originally purchased by KnowledgeBroadcasting.com, a division of Knowledge Universe. The Internet hey-day vision was to contract with the world’s foremost authorities on business topics to deliver pay-per-view learning experiences. We were in discussions with well known business experts from the Harvard Business School, American Marketing Association, and others to provide both live and on-demand distance learning sessions. Unfortunately, when the Internet bubble burst, so did the funding for the business plan. This studio and equipment has been in air conditioned storage for the last few years. Physical Requirements The studio is designed to fit within a business building environment. The minimum room size is 18’ x 25’ with 8’ ceilings, but 10-12’ ceilings will enable slightly better lighting. A noisy external environment will require some acoustical baffling in the studio. Studio Sale A detailed list of the studio equipment is available upon request. All of the original documentation will be included. The studio originally cost KnowledgeBroadcasting.com $179,945 (receipt is available). Buyer will need to pay for shipping from Austin, Texas which should run around $5,000. Buyer will likely want to pay for installation of the studio equipment in your facility and that should cost between $5,000 and $8,000.
